4 Days Tour From Marrakech To Merzouga Sahara Desert

At 8:30 a.m., you’ll be picked up from your accommodation in Marrakech in a private 4×4 vehicle to start your journey to Ouarzazate through the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you’ll traverse the Tizi N'Tichka Pass, the highest point in the country at 2,260m, and enjoy breathtaking views with stops to photograph Berber villages.

A detour will take you to Telouet Kasbah, where you can explore the site before enjoying a traditional meal in town. In the afternoon, drive through the scenic Ounila Valley, passing small Berber villages and adobe houses tucked into the mountains. You’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986, known for its iconic kasbah that has appeared in films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Sahara. After exploring the kasbah, continue to Ouarzazate, “The Gate of the Desert,” and end your day with dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.

After breakfast, we’ll make our way to the Draa Valley, home to one of Morocco’s longest rivers. Along the journey, we’ll pause to capture photos and admire the stunning kasbahs and Berber villages scattered along the route, as well as the breathtaking views of the valley.

You’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch in Nkob or Alnif before we continue on a two-hour drive to the magnificent Merzouga dunes, famously known as the “Desert of powdery sand dunes.” There, we’ll trade motorized transport for animal traction to venture deep into the desert. Upon arrival at the camp, we’ll settle into camel-hair tents, similar to those used by nomadic families. Enjoy dinner and spend the night in a Berber tent under a spectacular starlit sky.

"Date with the sunrise" In the heart of the desert, waking up early is essential to witness an unforgettable sunrise from the top of a dune near the camp and admire this natural beauty. Afterward, we ride camels back to Merzouga, where a delicious breakfast awaits. Following breakfast, we leave the desert for Rissani to explore the marketplace (open on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday).

Next, we head to Erfoud to visit the fossilized marble workshops before passing through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad. About an hour later, we arrive at one of the High Atlas' most stunning spots, the Todra Gorges. The river has carved a dramatic canyon with towering rock walls, a favorite for climbers and nature lovers. There’s time for lunch in this amazing location, and a short walk through the gorges is highly recommended to take in the scenery. In the afternoon, we travel to the Dades Valley, known as the Valley of Figs. Passing through Boumalne Dadès, we pause at the "Monkey legs" rock formation before settling in for dinner and an overnight stay at the Dadès Gorges.

After breakfast, we’ll take in one of the best views of the Dades Valley from a scenic mountain lookout, admiring the numerous kasbahs and their stunning features. Then, we’ll follow a road lined with kasbahs of interest, making several stops to enjoy the “One Thousand Kasbahs Road,” the Roses Valley, and the expansive Skoura palm grove.

In Ouarzazate, we’ll visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, once home to the Glaoui or Marrakech pasha. If interested, we can also explore the cinema studios and museum. There will be free time for lunch in town. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Marrakech via the Tizi N'Tichka mountain pass, pausing for photos along the way. Leaving the moon-like landscape behind, we’ll arrive at a vibrant, colorful scene. We’ll reach Marrakech around 6 P.M., transfer to the hotel, and conclude our services.
